'The Husbands of River Song'

It's Christmas Day again, so get into your big red robot suit and cause havoc around the dinner table, because Moffat's on the romp!

Yep, after a dark and intense end to series 9, Supreme Leader Moffat rightly decides we need some romping to cleanse our pallet - and by God it's a romp he shall deliver, as Capaldo and Kingston break out their A-game for some festive frolicking. But beneath all these japes lies something sinister - 'cos the Supreme Leader is going to try and wrap up River's Song's labyrinthine storyline in under an hour!

We're gonna need some gaffer tape, a glue gun, some staples and some quick drying cement, then we'll see if this house of cards can stand as tall as the Towers of Derillium!

'The Runaway Bride'

Are those wedding bells I hear? No, fool, they be jingle bells, 'cos it's only gone and become Christmas again!

Yes, the festive season is again upon us, like a monstrous gas cloud that permeates your very soul. So what time would be better for the Rewatch Podcast to make a brief return than CHRISTMAS WEEK, before Capaldo and River smash onto our screens for some of Moffat's Hijinks! But forget Capaldo, this week we're all about Daniel Tennant teaming up with Catherine Taterson for the second Who Xmas special, 2006's 'The Runaway Bride'. Will Donna finally make it to the church? Will she find something old, something borrowed and something blue? Will she get taken up the aisle by the love doctor Tennant?

There's only one way to find out!

'Heaven Sent' & 'Hell Bent'

Let's get bent!

It's that time of year again, where we all collect together as a nation, nay a world, to watch the Doctor Who finale, tearfully aware that we won't see the travelling time lord for almost another three weeks for his annual winter romp.

But what does young Moffat have in store for us this year, eh? We've had an interesting and unique series, these past three months, as we've happily drowned under a torrent of doublés that have had a slightly stripped down, back to basics affair. So naturally, Moffat comes and throws us the most Moffat-y episode he possibly could as a climax and we just just don't know *what* to feel!

Will series nine go out on a high? Will Capaldi's reign of quality continue? Will Moffat learn to leave well alone?

'Face the Raven'

Oooh, it's a good 'un!

After last week's found footage nightmare, we're all ready for a nice light romp before we head into the finale, and gosh darn it, we're gonna get it!

And who better to deliver us a romp than that guy from last year who was relatively entertaining in that one episode? You know. Rixton. Renton. Reggie. Brixton. Yeah, that guy. So join Wideface, Doctor Who and That Guy as we head down Diagon Alley for a light, airy, pre-finale, consequence free romp!

'Sleep No More'

You've got something in your eye - it's the glazed look of someone confronted with a middling episode of TV's Doctor Who!

In all seriousness, there's a lot to like about this episode - an inventive scenario, Capaldi bringing the rain as ever, a stellar Reese Witherspoon - but does it make a cohesive whole? Are we shaken AND stirred? Do we know what the hell to make of things? Find out, in yet another delightful episode of the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast!

‘The Zygon Inversion’

It’s a doublé!

Well, duh, this is the doublé season after all! Yep, we’re back with Wideface, Doctor Who, Osgood and the whole gang, as they get into what can only be described as ‘double trouble’. It seems this Zygon Truce business is well and truly going down the shitter and it’s up to Osgood (or someone) and Kate (or is it?) to save the day from Clara (or Barry, she she prefers to be called).

Whose side are you on? Will Kate send anthrax through the post to all the Zygons? Or will Capaldo manage to use his magnificent mane of hair to pacify the situation? There’s only one way to find out - jam this podcast into your Sony Walk Man and hit play on that mother!

'The Zygon Invasion'

Twenty million - that's a lot!

This week on the road of doublés, we investigate a invasion from the Body Snatchers Zygons. Picking up from the historic events of 'The Day of the Doctor', we join the Unified Intelligence Taskforce as the peace treaty with The Zygons slowly falls apart due to the actions of a few bad apples! With another Two Parter in the now famous Two Parter Season, we find yet again a guitar playing Doctor returning to save his friends on planet earth and challenge the behaviour of the filthy human race!

Find out how we cope with a world that has two Osgoods, two Wide-Faces and a UNIT unable to call The Cyberman Brigadier!!

'The Woman Who Lived'

Ooh, it's a good 'un!

Or is it? We both had a ball with this week's episode as we bathed in the slow creeping horror of immortality, pondering the awful concept of being left alone to slowly creep our way through the centuries - but the real question is does that translate into a well rounded episode of TV's 'Doctor Who'? Are Lenny the Lion and Sam Smith enough to distract kids from two people in a room talking about the curse of eternal life?

Well, we're about to find out, as we once again sit down for a bloody good chinwag about The Shadow, Peter Ecclestone and whether or not Mary Williams from 'Game of Thrones' is hot to trot!

'The Girl Who Died'

Not Vikings!

Yes, Vikings. We're returning to our good friends Wideface and Doctor Who for an encounter with a couple of brutal warrior races, but that's the least of the problems right now, as everyone's favourite Scotsman is about to meet that girl who everyone likes from Game of Thrones and it looks like she's going to be a Big Deal.

Are we possibly in for yet another doublé? It's a terrifying thought, and there's only one way to comfort yourself - hit play on this brutal warrior of a podcast!

'Before The Flood'

It's a doublé!

This time we're in dangerous territory though. We've had the first half of the two-parter and it's been a bit too good for our tastes. Have our expectations been set too high? Will Toby Weinstein (as he's known) deliver the good for his first two-partner?

There's only one way to find out, so lock yourself in a coffin, develop some Daredevil sonar skills and tighten your bootstraps - let's 'ave it!

'The Witch's Familiar' & 'Under The Lake'

It's a doublé doublé!

That's right, this week we're making up for our no-show last week by releasing two blockbuster podcasts at once, the kind of one-two punch that you'd expect from a professional boxer or drunken student.

First up, we've got our much delayed look back at 'The Witch's Familiar', starring the young Dave Ross, then we're following it up with a look at tonight's episode 'Under the Lake' and marvelling at the ballsy move of placing two two-parters right next to each other. So join us for a Who podcasting spectacular and your life will never be the same again!

'The Magician's Apprentice'

The name's Ross. Dave Ross.

Yep, series nine of TV's Doctor Who is here, starring Peter Capaldi as Doctor Who. But old Capaldi has a shock coming to him (as has the audience!) as he's about to bump into his old pal Dave Ross and trigger the kind of midlife crisis that results in a 57-year old man deciding to wear sunglasses indoors and buy a guitar.

Will the Doctor learn 'Stairway to Heaven'? Will Missy explain how she escaped death? Will Clara's headteacher continue to tolerate her constant absenteeism? Find out, in this week's Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast!

'Doomsday'

Get your hankies ready!

The road has been long, but the time has finally come to say goodbye to the man, the myth, the legend that is Rose Tyler. She's guided us through the first two years of the rewatch with a steady hand and a willingness to compassionately engage with the violent poor.

But all things must come to end, so it's time to shoo this lovebird off into another dimension NEVER to be seen again. Settle into your cosy chair, grab your security blanket and just let the tears flow as we bid farewell to Our Billie with a bumper edition of the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast!

'Army of Ghosts'

Hot damn, there’s some spicy developments on the menu!

It would seem the end times are approaching, as after much love and #megalolz , The Doctor (Doctor Who) and Rose (Rose) are finally going to be parting ways (again). But before we get there, there’s a whole host of shiznit that needs to go down beforehand. There’s a worldwide attack of spectres, a mysterious absence of bras in professional settings - and that’s before we even contend with Russell T Davies’s order from on high that everyone in the episode should be ‘fit as fuck’.

So, join us as we begin an incredibly lengthy goodbye to young scallywag Tyler, in what’s turned out to be one of the most fun episodes we’ve ever recorded - allegedly.

'Fear Her'

It's the 'lympics!

Do you think we'll do well in the Shock-Putt? The Otter Scramble? The 30,000 metres? It doesn't matter, because this week the only sport that matters is the Rose Tearing Up Council Tarmac-athon - and Ms. Tyler's going for gold!

Yes, the budget may be low, but our two favourite lovebirds are back and tearing up more than tarmac, but has the Doctor Who audience become immune to the charms of the Ten/Tyler love affair? That's the question on our lips this week, as we sit down and ask whether 'Fear Her' deserves its fearsome reputation.

'Love and Monsters'

Ah, there's nothing like sitting down and getting ready to spend 45 minutes in the company of our good friends Rose and Doctor - wait, what?

Well, it appears *something* is amiss as it would seem El Docto and Rosie are virtually absent from this week's adventure, as this week begins a now firmly established tradition in New Who - that of the doctor/companion-lite episode that allows the production team to record two episodes simultaneously and thus fit in the production of the Christmas Special into a 13 episode production run. But does this plan work? Does Russell T Dog successfully weave a tale that keeps the audience engaged in the absence of well, the main reason we've tuned in?

So, lean back, activate your Sony Walk Man and fetch a spade - things are about to get messy!

Love and Monsters: The Doctor Who Experience, 1979 to the Present

Sunday 5 July 2015

'The Satan's Pit'

What's down t'pit, Doctor?

So with Davey T down the pit for the day's work, it's for Billie to organise the troops and make sure dinner is on the table for tea time, Right? Wrong. She has to stop the Ood with the help of Toby (Rory) and Jefferson (Henderson's Relish).

So how will this doublé conclude - do we find a wee devil in the pit or just hot air? Does our Billie's phone signal improve and finally (and most importantly) does the rollercoaster finish better than it started or does it finish with all smiling faces?

'The Impossible Planet'

Exploration!

That’s the name of the game in this show (that and running) and this week we’re doing a bit of both as the Doctor (Doctor Who) and Rose (Billie) take one of their trips to a planet that, as Davey Tennant reliably tells us, is quite impossible.

And, would you believe it, there’s a fair number of mysteries knocking about there. We’re talking hieroglyphic acne, telepathic spaghetti men and, most shocking of all, Rose’s phone signal is, like, proper shit. These myriad mysteries demand answers and you’re certainly not going to get any this week as this is the first entry in a two-parter - one that we traditionally view very fondly - but has memory fitted us with billie-tinted spectacles, or is this a work of unmitigated genius?

There’s only one way to find out and that’s to ride this mother all the way down - like a rollercoaster!
